Manchester City will take a commanding lead back to the Etihad Stadium after a 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie in Budapest.

Pep Guardiola’s side netted a goal in either half, with Joao Cancelo at the heart of creating both of them.

The Portuguese international crossed from the left to pick Bernardo Silva out for the opener in the 29th minute.

That was the same combination that led to the second goal, with Cancelo’s cross finding Silva, who squared it for Gabriel Jesus to score.

The victory was City’s 19th in a row in all competitions as they look to challenge both domestically and in Europe once more.
