As Nigeria has entered the period of declaration of intention for 2023 election, not a few pro-democracy groups and human rights organizations are already putting touches to their plan to welcome Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to the venue of his declaration any time he is ready to do so.

A source close to the arrow head of the plan, the Pan –Lagos Youth Movement (PLYM), revealed that, “not less than 30 different organizations across the country have signed to be part of the project,” confessing however that, “no date has been fixed by the governor to do the needful.”

When contacted on phone, Convener of PLYM, Comrade Oladipupo Adewale was not very categorical over the issue, he only volunteered that, “that is just one of the plans to usher in Sanwo-Olu for his second term in office,” adding, “we are looking beyond declaration because declaration is just a mere formality to us.”

According to him, Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office, “to our people is a foregone conclusion and storming the declaration venue to receive him is just the ceremonial aspect of our plan for him for a job he has been doing well all this while.”

When cornered Thursday morning at Ikeja, Lagos, one of the leaders of the human right organizations in Nigeria, Comrade Razaq Olokoba was a bit evasive on the issue when asked to say something:

“You and I are aware that we have entered the stage of intention and aspirations’ declaration. So, what you are asking me, it is obvious that it is never out of place to get prepared for what is obvious to happen. Just wait and see, you will be thrilled by the way the governor would be ushered into the venue. Don’t let me say much for now. But I can assure you of a colourful outing. All sort of entertainment would be involved. Horse riding, masquerade dancers, beauty parade and others,” Olokoba enthused.

A lawyer and leader of an all women Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Barrister Eyitope Success-Adekunle, who heads the Women for Change Initiatives (WCI), was so excited when confiding in our reporter that, “several uniforms have been ordered for and we are at the stage of hitting the street to showcase to the public how they would be entertained on that day.”

Concluding, the lawyer cum activist stated with enthusiasm, “I cannot wait to hit the street along with members of the group to receive the man of the people, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, at any place he has decided to hold his declaration.”
