Son Makes Manchester City Pay For Aguero’s Penalty Miss

The margin isn’t as large as last season against  Liverpool, but  Manchester City will once again have to try to pull off a second leg comeback against an English opponent in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Son Heung-min, who had already netted  Tottenham‘s first goal at their new stadium last week, got the only goal of the night in the 78th minute to give his side a lead to take to  the Etihad for next week’s second leg.

City, though, had been given a wonderful chance in the 13th minute to bag a crucial away goal when  Danny Rose was penalised for a handball after a VAR consultation, but  Sergio Aguero‘s penalty kick was parried away by  Hugo Lloris.

Harry Kane had  Spurs‘ best chance of the first half, but it was saved by  Ederson and the striker’s night then ended early as he suffered an ankle injury shortly after the start of the second half.

It seemed that the visitors were keen to avoid a repeat of what happened at  Anfield last season, when they were thrashed by three goals, and at one point  Pep Guardiola even called for his players to calm down and to concentrate.

Yet there was a complete lack of concentration 12 minutes from time as  City defenders appealed for a goal kick, claiming that the ball had crossed the line before  Son could control it.

However, the ball hadn’t crossed the line and the South Koran nudged it back to open up an angle before squeezing a shot below  Ederson.

There was to be no away goal for  Guardiola‘s side as  Tottenham stood firm in the final stages, earning advantage in this all-English tie.
