The Director-General of the Edo State Health Insurance Commission, Dr. Rock Amegor has tasked religious leaders to support the state government’s drive to provide quality and affordable healthcare to residents of the state.

Amegor made the appeal during a sensitisation visit to St. Francis Catholic Church in Benin City.

The DG said religious leaders play a crucial role in sensitising members of the public on the need to enroll for the state’s health insurance and take advantage of its benefits, considering the economic health situation of the country and the unexpected health crises that arises.

He urged religious leaders to rally their members to be insured, which will assist them to spend less in accessing healthcare services, noting that the Scheme is designed to accommodate different classes of people in the society in order to achieve Universal Health Coverage in the State.

Amegor said the Equity plan is funded by the federal and state governments under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to provide free medical care for the vulnerable groups in the society.

The director noted that the health insurance scheme makes provision for an Equity Plan health insurance cover for the vulnerable who do not have any source of livelihood, adding, “Those targeted under the Equity Plan are: children under 5 years, physically challenged, the aged between 60 years and above, poor pregnant women and persons living below poverty line ($1 per day).”

The Equity plan, according to him, is funded by the federal and state governments under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to provide free medical care for the vulnerable groups in the society.
