National Assembly Workers Issue Strike Notice Over Minimum Wage

The National Assembly chapter of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) on Thursday threatened to embark on an industrial action if the management of the federal parliament failed to implement the national minimum wage within two weeks.

The workers action followed the expiration of their earlier 21-day ultimatum to the management which expired on Wednesday.

PASAN’s ultimatum was contained in its letter dated February 25, and addressed to the Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission.

It was jointly signed by Messrs Sunday Sabiyi and Ojemeri Oisameye, chairmen of the NASS and NASC chapters of PASSAN, respectively.

The workers’ ultimatum to the management expired on March 18.

PASAN, in another letter on Thursday, jointly signed by Sabiyi and Oisameye, and obtained by our correspondent, wondered why the management ignored its 21-day ultimatum.

The workers, therefore, said they could not guarantee industrial harmony if at the end of their fresh 14-day strike notice, the management still ignored their demands.
