Arsenal thrashed Sheffield United with a show from Eddie Nketiah. The England international scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 win over the Premier League’s bottom side.

The Gunners keep pace with Tottenham… and put pressure on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who play the Manchester derby on Sunday.

Arsenal were infinitely superior to Sheffield United and gave the Premier League’s bottom side no chance when they visited the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

Hopes aren’t high for Paul Heckingbottom’s future

Arteta’s charges pinned Heckingbottom’s side back in their own area, and although they struggled to make it 1-0, there wasn’t an iota of danger from the visitors.

Nketiah, with a piece of close control reminiscent of Dennis Bergkamp at his best, scored the opener beyond Wes Foderingham.

The second half was more of the same: an Arsenal side that crushed Sheffield United at Nketiah’s pace.

The England striker made his case for a regular spot in the starting XI, deputizing for Gabriel Jesus, who watched from the stands.

The second goal, from a dead ball after a corner; the third, a wonder strike from outside the box with a right-footed shot into the top corner.

Unstoppable. So far, he has only scored two goals in the Premier League… and it is his first hat-trick in the English top flight. Fabio Vieira, from a penalty, and Takehiro Tomiyasu, from a corner, completed the scoring.

It was a 5-0 win that consolidates Arsenal’s good week which included a victory over Sevilla, and keeps them second in the Premier League. Arteta’s side are keeping their grip on Tottenham and remain two points behind their North London rivals.
