Lyon began the weekend back on top of Ligue 1 after they overcame Brest 3-2 in the Friday night game in France.

Rudi Garcia’s men started the game superbly, with Lucas Paqueta opening the scoring after just nine mistakes as Sebastien Cibois made a fatal error in goal for Brest.

Then Memphis Depay set up Houssem Aouar to score the second on 30 minutes before stepping up himself to score a penalty on the stroke of half time.

Cibois conceded the penalty and was at fault for the first goal, but his teammates mounted a second-half comeback to scare the vistors.

Brendan Chardonnet scored early on with Irvin Cardona bringing real hope as the game wore on, but Lyon stood firm to seal the victory.

Lyon could still end the weekend in third, with Lille only needing a point against Lorient to overtake them, while Paris Saint-Germain could also move ahead on goal difference if they beat Monaco.
