Tottenham Hotspur progressed to the fourth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable 5-0 win over Marine on Merseyside on Sunday evening.
Jose Mourinho’s side found themselves in humble surroundings as they became the first Premier League team to face opposition from England’s eighth tier.
The hosts came tantalisingly close to opening the scoring at the Marine Travel Arena as Neil Kengni’s long-range shot came back off the crossbar.
After that sizeable scare, Spurs took control of proceedings, with Carlos Vinicius scoring twice from inside the six-yard box.
Lucas Moura added a third goal with a free kick before Vinicius completed his hat-trick with a lob over goalkeeper Bayleigh Passant.
With the visitors four goals up at half time, Mourinho made changes, giving a senior debut to Alfie Devine at the break.
After Devine had struck the fifth goal on the hour mark, Gareth Bale was introduced off the bench, while Sergio Reguilon joined his former Real Madrid teammate on the pitch minutes later.
Neither Bale nor Reguilon could widen Tottenham’s advantage as they secured a safe passage to the next round of England’s historic cup competition.
