It was announced on Sunday that two people at Atletico Madrid had tested positive for coronavirus and now, this Monday, it has been confirmed by the club that they are Angel Correa and Sime Vrsaljko.

As such, neither player can travel to Lisbon for the Champions League final eight.

The good news for Atletico Madrid, though, is that no other player or coach has returned positive results after they all went for new tests on Sunday.

Correa‘s and Vrsaljko‘s families were tested too and these results have also come back negative.

Atletico Madrid revealed the identities of the two cases in a statement released on Monday afternoon.

“The club’s medical services have received the authorisation in both cases to reveal the identities and to end the speculation,” the statement said, before thanking the media for not revealing the identities until now.

Correa is in isolation at home without presenting any symptoms.

Vrsaljko, who was recovering from an injury away from the group, is also asymptomatic and is also staying at his home.

“However, Vrsaljko‘s case is considered to be a solved one by the health authorities since he generated antibodies months ago.

“Doctors will monitor both players, as the health protocol outlines.”
