Granada fell to a 2-0 loss to Manchester United at the Nuevo Estadio de Los Carmenes on Thursday evening in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie.

A Marcus Rashford strike in the first half looked enough for the English giants to get the better of the Spaniards, before Bruno Fernandes added a second late on to give the visitors a commanding lead to take back to Old Trafford.

United expectedly started the stronger of the two. Settling nicely, they had the game’s first chance when Rashford sent over the crossbar. The English forward again went close as he sent a shot just wide moments later.

Kennedy had Granada’s first sight at goal but his effort went over David De Gea’s crossbar and United led shortly after. Victor Lindelof sent a long ball towards Rashford who easily finished with just over half an hour played.

Granada did strike De Gea’s post and go close on a couple of occasions, but Ole Gunna Solskjaer’s side made it to the break with their lead intact.

United continued to build pressure throughout the second half, and a second goal did seem likely for much of it. It eventually came in the 90th minute as Bruno Fernandes converted a penalty that Rui Silva might have done more to keep out.
