Nigerian Fans Not Permitted Into World Cup Stadiums With Live Chickens
The World Cup sees a myriad of different cultures and traditions mix in perfect harmony, however it’s been confirmed that live chickens will not be allowed into the stadiums in Russia, which is bad news for Nigeria.
Nigerian supporters have traditionally painted chickens green and white and taken them into the stadium because the birds are seen as a good luck charm.
Andrei Yermak, the tourism minister for Kaliningrad, has confirmed that such a tradition will not be given a blind eye when the Super Eagles take on Croatia in the city on Saturday evening.
“We’ve already told [the fans] that there is no way they will be allowed into the stadiums with live chickens,” he explained.
This isn’t the first occasion that this has been an issue, back in 2010 the South African authorities also prohibited supporters from bringing chickens to matches.
