A Peace Movement, Nigeria Peace Advocacy Group (NPAG), has commended Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment in securing food for the people of the state stating that, the effort is in line with the wise saying that, when hunger is eliminated, poverty is half defeated’
Leader of the group, Omolola Olukayode in a media chat in Lagos said, “we have been monitoring the governor’s efforts towards massive food production in the state and we have come to the conclusion that, in due course, Lagos would assume the leading status of a Food Basket.”
Omolola said he was speaking out of experience he gained when the governor recently paid a working visit to the ancient city of Badagry where he vowed to revive all the agricultural structure on ground to boost food production in the state.
According to him, the governor spoke passionately on the need to revive the moribund Avia Organic Farm in the town, adding that, “other agricultural projects to be developed for commercial purposes in the organic farm included fishing, piggery, poultry and agroforestry.”
The activist expressed the delight when he quoted the governor as saying that his administration would as a matter of priority raise fund to raise the project to the level it ought to be,” saying, “if with a minimal fund, the agriculture ministry could bring the project to that level, with additional government support, the project would be able to serve the purpose it was meant for.”
If the intervention comes, Omolola said the awaiting Food Production Park promised by the government would become a reality and the people of the state would be better for it, stressing the need for the people’s understanding and cooperation with Sanwo-Olu to encourage him to fulfil his promise.
“Since Sanwo-Olu never reneges in any promise he makes, we are rest assured that, by the time he finishes with the project, food security in Lagos State would have been a forgone conclusion. We believe him because he is a man that works his talk. And that is why the confidence we repose in him has never shaken,” he submitted.
Speaking further, the youthful activist also congratulated the people of the state on the resolve of the governor to increase the food security level from 20% to 50% through Food Production Parks across the state and thereby raising the state’s food sufficiency.
“This Sanwo-Olu is God sent to the people of Lagos State. We thank God for directing us aright in 2019 while casting our vote. With Sanwo-Olu at the helm of affairs, we can all go home and sleep because a Daniel has come to the judgment,” the activist asserted.
He, therefore, solicits maximum support from the people to ginger the governor to do more for them, assuring that, “any support given to Sanwo-Olu would never be a misplaced venture.
