The Wife of Edo State Deputy Governor Comrade Mrs Maryann Philip-Shaibu has described her objectives for making constant provision for economic empowerment and development of Women in the State as a deliberate strategy to provide Economic safety nets for Women who are usually the vulnerable group in every society.
No fewer than 39 Women from the the six Local Government of Edo North yesterday benefitted from the quarterly skill acquisition and Empowerment program organised by the wife of the Edo State Deputy Governor Comrade Mrs Maryann Philip-Shaibu to improve upon the economic status of the Edo Woman.
According to her, “My slogan is to constantly and on a daily basis empower one Edo Woman. That’s what I wish to be remembered for. By the time you continuously empower one Edo Woman you would have succeeded in empowering all Edo Women. The multiplier effect of this decision is far reaching because when you empower one woman you are empowering a generation. I have started this initiative from our own Edo North with the support and approval of my Boss, the Wife of the Governor Mrs Betsy Obaseki who has given me the permission and key to manage Edo North crowd.”

She maintained that “development is the goal of every Political, Economic and Corporate governance. The Program is in the form of apprenticeship/ rehabilitation program for Edo North Women. This is so because we conducted a need assessment evaluation section, where we got understanding of the areas the women wish to individually develop themselves and their area of trade expertise.
“The items we are presenting today are presented to those who have undergone skill acquisition training and the items are presented according to their individual area of specialty.”
“Mrs Shaibu who was speaking during an empowerment program she organised for Edo North Women Yesterday said “the Women know what they want. Some of them requested for Big deep freezers, While some demanded for Hair Dryers and other tools, yet others mentioned several other forms of business they would want to invest in. All items to be presented are based on the need assessment that was conducted and no item is imposed on anyone”
She expressed the need for women to always encourage each other and cautioned against allowing 4, 4 years politicians to derail their destiny and the future of their children. Those politicians only remember you after every four years to come and share 5000 naira and clothes for you in exchange for your future for their ambition.
“Since after election I have come to this Edo North more than ten times to host various empowerment Programs and to continue my usual outreach activities in my desire to integrate Women into the human development agenda, and ensure the full participation of Women in the Socio-economic and Political development of the State by improving the standard of living and quality of life of various families but where are those 4, 4 years politicians?
While congratulating the beneficiaries of the program, she called on them not to eat their capital but ensure that the money given to them is used for the purpose for which it was given.
“Women are good Economic managers therefore as a Nigerian woman, we must play Politics with decency, dignity and honour that women are known for through prudent management of resources in our private endeavours.”

Some of the beneficiaries of the Empowerment program who spoke expressed gratitude to the wife of the Deputy Governor for transforming the Economy, building bridges and creating peace in the society through her laudable project. They described her intentions as genuine as it’s meant to stimulate the economy and Social Welfare of the Edo Women.
