Men of the Nigeria Police Force have taken over the premises of the National Health Insurance Scheme after being informed of a planned protest by workers of the agency.
According to a source within the NHIS, it was revealed to this reporter that “workers have been told since Friday not to enter their offices in preparation for a protest this morning.”
According to the source, “Oga (NHIS boss) has brought in police this morning because he heard of our planned protest”
The reason for the protest is not unconnected with the recall of the Executive Secretary of the NHIS, Prof. Usman Yusuf by President Muhammadu Buhari. Yusuf was suspended for his involvement with the embezzlement of N91million.
A panel set up by the Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole had suspended Yusuf but was recalled by President Muhammadu Buhari in a move greeted with widespread criticisms.
