Utrecht Shooting: 1 Likely Dead, Multiple Injured, Says Police

Dutch authorities suspect one person was killed in a shooting on a tram in the city of Utrecht on Monday, a police spokesperson said.

Separately, a reporter said a white sheet had been placed over a body near the tram where the shooting took place.

They added that several people were wounded in the shooting, with local media reporting counter-terrorism police at the scene.

“A shooting occurred on the 24 Oktoberplein in Utrecht… Multiple people have been injured. The surrounding area has been cordoned off and we are investigating the matter,” Utrecht police said on Twitter.

“A possible terrorist motif is part of the investigation,” it added.

Prime Minister Mark Rutte said he was “deeply concerned” about the incident.
