David Silva As Real Sociedad Go Top With Big Win At Celta Vigo

Real Sociedad bounced back from their midweek Europa League defeat to Napoli in the best possible way, with a resounding 4-1 away win at Celta Vigo which puts them top of the LaLiga Santander table.

The European defeat seemed to serve as motivation that prevailed over any tiredness, as La Real started on the front foot at Balaidos, although the hosts didn’t do themselves any favours either with a poor defensive showing.

David Silva was the big name arrival in the summer and the midfield maestro managed to get his first goal for the club with an excellent header midway through the first half. It didn’t take long after for Real Sociedad to double their lead through Mikel Oyarzabal, who capitalised on a defensive mix-up to put him through on goal, and the Spanish international made no mistake with the finish.

The second half started followed the same pattern as the first, with Willian Jose making it 3-0 on 54 minutes, after Portu robbed Jeison Murillo of the ball to tee up the Brazilian.

Iago Aspas salvaged a consolation goal from the penalty spot on 77 minutes to make it 3-1, but it failed to spark any late revival from a deflated Celta Vigo side whose poor showings are beginning to cause concern even at such an early stage of the campaign.

Willian Jose restored Real Sociedad’s three goal advantage just four minutes after Aspas’ spot kick to give a fairer reflection to the scoreboard.

The victory for the San Sebastian club puts them at the top of the league at the end of Week 8 of LaLiga Santander, although Real Madrid have a game in hand and are just one point behind, while Atletico Madrid have two matches to spare and three points adrift.
