The United Kingdom became the fifth nation to record over 10,000 deaths from the coronavirus as officials advised the country could finally become the hardest hit in Europe.

Following 737 deaths were disclosed hours after Prime Minister Boris Johnson was released from the hospital where he was treated for COVID-19 for a week, including three nights in intensive care.

The accumulation brings the total number of Britons to die from the disease to 10,612, the Health Ministry said on Sunday. Italy, France and Spain have all reached the grim milestone and more than 20,000 have died from the disease in the U.S., which surpassed Italy yesterday as the country with the most casualties.

“The U.K. is likely to be certainly one of the terriblep0, if not the worst affected country in Europe,” Jeremy Farrar, a member of the scientific panel advising the government on the pandemic, told the BBC on Sunday.
