2021 Oscars: The Favourites For The Academy Awards
The coronavirus pandemic has seen the Oscars delayed until April 25, and the nominees will be announced on Monday, March 15.
What movies are favourites?
Although the nominees won’t be known until next week, some films are already frontrunners to win an award.
Nomadland
Having won awards at the Golden Globes, Nomadland is expected to take home more silverware at the Oscars. Chloe Zhao is also tipped to win big.
Mank
Although nothing was won at the Golden Globes, six nominations showed how highly it was thought of. It was also up for Best Original Screenplay at the BAFTAs. Gary Oldman is expected to fight for Best Actor.
One Night in Miami
Regina King already won Best Director at the Golden Globes and the cast could also be in for some success.
The Trial of the Chicago 7
Aaron Sorkin already impressed at the Golden Globes and BAFTAs, winning prizes for Best Screenplay and Best Film. The film remembers the 1969 trial of seven anti-Vietnam war protesters.
News of the World
Both Tom Hanks and Helena Zengel could be set to win big for this, while the soundtrack and filmography were also excellent in the film.
As well as the above mentioned films, others that could be in the running are: The Father, Pieces of a Woman, Da 5 Bloods, Promising Young Woman, Malcolm & Marie, First Cow, On the Rocks, Sound of Metal, Ammonite, and Soul.
The nominees will be announced on Monday, March 15 and can be followed on The Academy Awards’ social media channels.
