The celebrations of Inter’s return to the top of the Serie A table have been short-lived as title winning coach Antonio Conte left the club less than a month after winning the Scudetto.

The Italian brought the title back to the club after 11 years without the league trophy, but fell out with the club’s owners over transfer plans for this summer.

“FC Internazionale Milano can confirm that an agreement has been reached with Antonio Conte for the termination of his contract by mutual consent,” a club statement read.

“The Club would like to thank Antonio for the extraordinary work that he has done, culminating in Inter’s 19th top-flight title. Antonio Conte will forever remain a part of our Club’s history.”

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, he’ll be paid almost seven million euros, half of the remaining year of his contract, as part of the agreement to leave the club.

Inter president Steven Zhang is said to be keen to reduce the wage bill and sell key players to do so, which Conte was not willing to accept.
