Kevin De Bruyne, N’Golo Kante and Jorginho have been nominated for for the 2020/21 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year Award, but which of them should go on to take the crown?

All three enjoyed stellar seasons with their respective clubs and countries, and here we look at the case of each player to lift the award on August 26.

Kevin De Bruyne

In what was an excellent campaign for Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne played a pivotal role as he enjoyed another fine personal season.

Often deployed in an unfamiliar false nine role for his club, the Belgian excelled as he drove the team on to lifting their third Premier League title in four seasons.

Had he not been forced off with injury in City’s first Champions League Final, he would have felt confident of overturning the 1-0 scoreline.

He also made his mark for his country at Euro 2020, coming off the bench against Denmark in a key group fixture with The Red Devils a goal down to lead them to a 2-1 victory.

N’Golo Kante

Last season saw N’Golo Kante’s stunning rise reach new heights, as he was central to Chelsea’s Champions League triumph.

He was an irrepressible force for his side in the knockout stages, as he won the Player of the Match award on four occasions, against three opponents: Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Manchester City.

Although France endured a disappointing Euro 2020 campaign, Kante was consistently excellent, as he continued his fabulous club form into the summer.

Jorginho

Jorginho has arguably the strongest case of the trio to win the award, as he lifted both the European Cup and European Championship in the same year – becoming only the ninth player to do so.

He established himself as one of the finest midfielders in world football as he helped Chelsea secure their second Champions League title, before his decisive role in Italy’s triumph at Euro 2020, with his most memorable moment coming as he stepped up to nonchalantly slot home the winning spotkick in the semi-final victory over Spain.
