Alhaji Aminu Kofar Soro, a security expert, has explained that, the reason for the establishment of the National Taskforce on the Prohibition of Illegal Importation/Smuggling of Arms, Ammunition and Light Weapons (NATFORCE), was to rally round President Muhammadu Buhari in his fight against security challenges and unemployment in the country.

Soro, a NATFORCE enthusiast in an interview in Abuja revealed that the two main objectives of the agency are to ensure security of the country and provide jobs for the jobless youth of Nigeria, asserting that, “with a secured country and gainfully engaged youth, acts of criminality in the country would be a thing of the past as idle hand is the devil’s workshop.”

According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari is aware of the group, loves it and appreciate its activities, pointing out that, the president would fall in love with any initiative that can eradicate insecurity and keep the youth away from the street.

Soro, who is a retired Deputy Controller of the Civil Defence Corps, therefore, praised the Director-General of the organization, Dr Baba Mohammed for the initiative that is structured in a manner that would guarantee eradication of crimes and finding gainful jobs for the youth to keep them away from any act of criminality, enthuse that, President Buhari would support it because he knows the benefit accruable to the citizenry and the country from it.

“President Buhari would not want a situation that anybody would be kidnapped in this country, he would not want a situation that banditry continues in this country and that is why he has been spending money, deploying human and material resources to fight that these things must stop,” Soro submitted with an air of finality.

Soro, therefore, expressed optimism that, “with the advent of NATFORCE, we would, of course, see the end of all the menace in this country,” assuring that, “with the strategic plans put in place, by Baba Mohammed, the Director-General of this organization, we would be able to right the wrongs that have been noticed in the system.”

The retired DCG of Civil Defence Corps expressed the delights that, the leadership of the organization has taken a right step by seeking legal teeth for its operation, disclosing that, “a Bill towards that effect is before the National Assembly and has even passed the second reading moving towards the last stage of endorsement.”

He admits that, “It is a notorious fact that, the country’s security agents are doing their best,” observing however that, “over the years, experience has shown that there are still some gaps that need to be filled.

Asserting that, the Task Force is out to close those gaps of insecurity and those gaps of unemployment in this country.

He noticed that, over the years, “there are so many countries within the West Africa sub-regions that have keyed into this ECOWAS initiative to ensure that we are able to control the influx of illegal arms and ammunitions from entering the country,” enthusing that, “at the end of the day, we will not allow the illegal arms to enter the country before we start to pursue those who brought them in!”
