Morata Brace Gives Atletico Madrid Edge Impressive Derby Win Over Real Madrid
Real Madrid’s perfect start to the LaLiga EA Sports campaign is over thanks to city rivals Atletico Madrid, who secured an impressive 3-1 victory at the Metropolitano on Sunday night.
The home side wasted no time in racing out to a two-goal advantage after just 18 minutes. Although Real Madrid halved the advantage before the break through Toni Kroos, Alvaro Morata’s second after the restart ended hopes of a comeback, as Diego Simeone’s men controlled proceedings from there.
Atletico Madrid got off to a fantastic start by opening the scoring after just four minutes. Lino’s cross from the left with his right foot met the head of Alvaro Morata, who sent his powerful header into the bottom of the net.
Although Real Madrid maintained possession after the strike, it was the home side who doubled the advantage in the 18th minute.
Los Blancos cut the lead in half 10 minutes before the break thanks to a bullet strike from Kroos which left Jan Oblak with no chance.
Los Blancos netted a second before the break when Eduardo Camavinga fired home a rebound, but the goal was called back due to Antonio Rudiger being in an offside position.
Just like the first half, Atletico began the restart on the front foot and netted a third less than a minute after action resumed. Saul’s clipped cross from the left found Morata, who headed home for the second time to restore Atletico’s two-goal advantage.
While Real Madrid controlled possession after that, it was the home side who almost netted a fourth, only for Hermoso’s looping header to come off the bar.
Try as they might, the visitors just couldn’t break through Atletico’s backline from there, with the home side seeing out the contest and securing three points to move into fifth. As for Real Madrid, they now sit third with 15 points, two back of league leaders Barcelona
