Abayomi made the prediction on Friday during a press conference at Alausa, Ikeja.
According to him, the virus is expected to reach its peak between the months of July and August and the state could record 90,000 to 120,000 cases of the disease.
The Commissioner also said the state expanded testings to reach a large number of people in a bid to flatten the curve.
“If government had not been proactive, the Lagos would have by now recorded 6,000 cases rather than the 1,491 cases it has now.
“Alimosho, Oshodi and Isolo local governments have begun to record more cases of the disease.
“97 percent of positive cases at its isolation centres were mild and moderate cases while only three percent of the patients had severe cases.
“The mortality rate has been mainly among males. The ones with pre-existing ailments such as diabetes, cancer, hypertension and others are prone to die,” he said.
The commissioner noted that 10 staff of the State House that tested positive have been taken to isolation centres.
