Dzeko Rescues Victory For Inter With Late Goal Against Venezia
It was almost a night of disaster for Inter, with the Nerazzurri requiring an injury-time winning goal from Edin Dzeko against relegation-threatened Venezia.
The challenge to retain the Scudetto is very much on for Inter, and dropping two points to the Venice-based club would have been a truly disappointing result, especially with title rivals AC Milan having dispatched the same opposition fairly recently.
After Thomas Henry gave the visitors a shock lead inside 20 minutes of play, the hosts were able to draw level through Nicolo Barella in the 40th minute.
What followed was a barrage from the home team, as they threw players forward to ensure their five-point lead over Milan remained intact before the two teams meet in the next matchday.
Inter put much more high-quality moves together in the second half, putting Venezia’s defence under pressure, and it was eventually Dzeko who took the chance.
A fine cross from Denzel Dumfries found the 35-year-old striker inside the penalty area, and his header bounced into the net, marking his ninth league goal for the season.
