Several Injured After Shots Fired In Munich Train Station

Four people have been injured after shots were fired at a train station in Unterföhring, in northern Munich.

The incident, which unfolded at around 8.30am, has left two bystanders seriously wounded and a 26-year-old policewoman suffering from a life-threatening head injury.

The 37-year-old attacker, who has been arrested was also injured during the attack. The incident is said to have unfolded after a police officer approached people who had reportedly been involved in a fight on one of the trains getting into the station.

The perpetrator then tried to push the police officer in front of a train that was getting into the station. Police then tried to overpower the man who, in the middle of the brawl managed to steal the officer’s weapon. He then fired several shots at the police officers.

Police said there was no reason to believe there were other assailants involved in the attack and that a terrorist attack had been ruled out. There is no danger to the public, a police spokesperson said.

Police have cordoned the area off and secured the station, which remains closed. Up to 300 police officers and special operations forces were at the scene. A helicopter from the federal police was also in use, according to Süddeutsche Zeitung.
