A woman, Oluwatoyin Sheriff, has told a Customary Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, she is no more interested in her four-year-old marriage to her husband, Amubieya Sheriff.
Oluwatoyin described her husband as troublesome, hot tempered and indifferent to her state of childless. She, as such, sought the court’s action in putting an end to their union.

“I’m fed up with our relationship and no longer wish to go on with it, “the plaintiff said.

“My husband is irrational in his ways. Many times he gets angry and beats me for no just cause. We argue every now and then and never agree on any issue.

“Our neighbours are tired of mediating in our differences while our landlord is always threatening to throw us out.

“We have been married for four years and we are yet to have children of our own, but he’s not just bothered. All he’s interested in is having sex with me. I have often persuaded him that we seek solution to this problem, but he had always declined.

“He refused that we both see a doctor and when I suggested the idea of seeking spiritual help, he told me he was not interested. He feels unconcerned because he has another wife who has children for him, “she added.

“Any time I tell him I was going to pack my things and move out of his house, he would threaten to kill me.

“My life is wasting away, and I need to put a stop to this frustrated lifestyle of mine. Getting a divorce to me is the best solution, “Oluwatoyin concluded.

“My lord I am dazed and short of words. Now, I know that women are powerful and can kill.

“My wife and I sat down, discussed and settled our differences immediately I received the court summon.

“She told me her going to court was to threaten me, but added that she has forgiven me.

“We were together throughout yesterday; she told me not to accede to her prayer of divorce when we get to court and added that she would tell the court we have settled our differences amicably.

“After tidying up our plans, I gave her money to prepare a delicious meal for supper. We ate and watched films together and also made love throughout the night. I never knew she was indirectly holding a ‘send off party’ for me.

“Early this morning, she packed my clothes and other items in a bag and called my brother to come for them. When I asked her the reason for her action, she told me it was better we did that since we weren’t sure how our matter would end in court.

“I failed to read between the lines.

“My lord, this woman can kill without using a gun or knife. Now that she has successfully hatched her plans, I declare before the court that I agree to her prayer of divorce.

Ruling on the suit, the court president, Mr Ademola Odunade, dissolved the union and ordered the plaintiff to move out of their rented apartment by June ending.
