Wolfsburg Out Of DFB-Pokal For Using Extra Substitution

Wolfsburg have been eliminated from DFB-Pokal after using an extra substitution during their game with fourth-tier side Preussen Muenster in the first round of the tournament.

Mark van Bommel’s team were allowed five changes, but instead they made six, with the referee of the game failing to realise they used an extra player in a game they won 3-1 on the road.

This is not the first time that the sports court has eliminated Wolfsburg from the DFB-Pokal, as they were also thrown out of the competition back in 2004 after playing Marian Hristov, who was carrying a suspension from his previous club, Kaiserslautern.

That’s similar to what happened to Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey back in 2015/16, when they used Denis Cherishev despite him being ineligible for selection after having collected three yellow cards in the previous edition.
