Bayern Munich Outsmart Dortmund In German Der Klassiker
Robert Lewandowski scored a hat-trick against his former club as Bayern Munich came from two goals down to beat Borussia Dortmund 4-2 in Der Klassiker.
Before the Polish international could steal the show, Erling Haaland put himself centre stage at the Allianz Arena with two early goals.
The Norwegian’s first strike came within the first two minutes before he converted Thorgan Hazard’s cross for a second in the ninth minute.
Lewandowski would respond before half time, though, converting Leroy Sane’s low cross to halve Dortmund’s advantage.
When VAR awarded the hosts a penalty just before the break, their imperious striker levelled the scores from 12 yards.
Both teams pushed to retake the lead in the second half and Leon Goretzka looked to have won it with two minutes of normal time to go.
There was still time, though, for Lewandowski to complete his hat-trick with a low drive from the edge of the penalty area.
To make matters worse for Dortmund, they have an injury to Haaland to contend with ahead of the second leg of their Champions League tie against Sevilla. The youngster was forced off with an ankle problem in the 60th minute.
The win sees Bayern overtake RB Leipzig at the top of the Bundesliga table, while Dortmund remain in eighth place.
