7.3-magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Peru
The United States Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 off Peru.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The USGS says that the temblor struck 42 km south-southwest of Acari at 9.18 GMT (2.48 p.m. IST) on January 14 at a depth of 12.1 km.
It wasn’t immediately clear if a tsunami warning has been issued.
Tsunami waves reaching 30 cm to 1m have been forecast for some coasts of Peru.
