Arsene Wenger will not be the new Bayern Munich coach after the Frenchman offered himself for the vacant head coach role only to be rejected by the German club’s CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Niko Kovac was dismissed following Bayern‘s 5-1 defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend and Wenger has been strongly linked with the position.
However, according to Bild, discussions between the two parties proved unsuccessful.
“Wenger called Karl-Heinz Rummenigge on Wednesday afternoon and basically showed interest in the position of Bayern coach,” Bild wrote.
“Bayern greatly appreciate Arsene Wenger for his work at Arsenal, but he is not an option.”
Wenger recently mentioned the Bayern role during an appearance on beIN Sports where he is a pundit.
“I have never refused to talk to Bayern because I have known the people who have been leading the club for 30 years.
“I was close to joining a long time ago. For now, I have not talked to them , and I don’t know if we will do so.”
