The Edo State Government has assured that it will not relent in initiating and implementing policies and reforms that will harness the potentials of youths in contributing to the development of the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Edo State Ministry of Youth and Special Duties, Dr. Mrs. Ehimwenma Joy Ebhodaghe, gave the assurance at a press briefing in Benin City, the state capital.

She said the state government will continue to drive youth development through the establishment of a Youth Parliament, which will serve as a voice for all youths in the state.

Ebhodaghe commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for initiatives put in place to take care of the welfare of the youths in the state, adding that several youth empowerment programmes are ongoing to support the development of youths.

According to her, “when youths are empowered and given a voice, crime rate will be reduced to the barest minimum while the youths would be given the opportunity to be part of governance.”

She further explained that the establishment of the Edo Youth Parliament in the state has provided a platform where the voices of the youths will be heard, noting that through the parliament, youth-friendly policies would emerge.

The inauguration of the Edo Youth Parliament is scheduled to hold in May, 2021.
