Real Betis Settle For A Point Against 10-man Olympiacos

Five seasons later, Real Betis returned to European football with a Europa League trip to take on Olympiacos and they’ll return home from Greece with one point.

Once again, there were no goals from Betis and Joaquin‘s winner in the Seville derby remains their only net-ripple of the campaign, but a draw against a team with the stature of Olympiacos can be viewed as a positive, even if the Greek side went down to 10 men.

This was a strange match, with the team in red and white having just 26 percent of the ball, while also creating arguably the most dangerous chances.

The best opportunity of the first half was for the home side, as Daniel Podence drew a stunning save from Joel Robles in the 42nd minute.

Just five minutes after the interval, the Spanish goalkeeper was called into action again, this time to deny Ioannis Fetfatzidis.

At the other end, Betis had chances for Loren Moron and Sergio Leon and were then given a boost when Konstantinos Tsimikas was shown a second yellow in the 73rd minute.

But Betis couldn’t break through their opposition’s defence and it finished as a draw, which was probably a fair result when considering that the Quique Setien‘s side had most of the possession but that the Greek side had more shots on target, with five to three.
