Barcelona take on Villarreal on Sunday and Ronald Koeman previewed that game, while also looking ahead to 2021/22.

The Dutchman believes he will stay be in charge of the team and spoke about the backing he feels he has from new president Joan Laporta.

“The president from the first day has shown his support and confidence in me,” Koeman said in his press conference on Saturday.

“Until the opposite happens then I’ll say the same thing.

“So, in principle, I see myself as the coach for next season. I have a contract as well.

“If that’s not the case, we’ll need to talk.”

Focusing on the current campaign, Koeman discussed Sunday’s trip to take on Unai Emery’s Yellow Submarine.

“It’s all about winning, for us just like for the other teams,” he said.

“I don’t think there’s any title rival much stronger than any other.

“If you don’t win then you’ll have a smaller chance of winning LaLiga.

“I think every match will have its difficult elements.

“This game isn’t necessarily any more difficult than any other.

“It’ll be an interesting match because Villarreal play well and have quality.”

Asked if he is concerned about fatigue with certain starters who are barely resting, Koeman said that he is calm.

“It doesn’t worry me too much because we have their data,” he explained.

“Players have played a lot, but we’re recovering well. The players are always in good shape to start the matches.

“Sometimes there isn’t much rest, but we need to accept the kick off times.

“Despite criticism they don’t change. We need to accept it and recover.”
