The National Assembly Legislative Aide Forum (NASSLAF) are in showdown with both chambers headed by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara over poor welfare of legislative aides since it inception in June 2015 and furthermore warned on the possibility of close down the complex.

The legislative aide are in five categories which include, Senior Legislative aides, Legislative Assistance 1 and 2, Personal Assistant and Secretary. Each of these categories are deprive of their training, allowances, and the fear over incomplete severance entitlement.

Each aide is entitled to 74,400 DTA allowance every three months which is 74,400 × 9=669,600 and the severance allowance of  34, 400 for each aide at the end of the tenure.

But the legislative aide at both chambers are worried because if the DTA statutory allowances are not paid what then is their faith that the complete severance allowance will be paid?

The source who revealed this to worldtopnewsng.com said only three months allowance has been paid since 2015. They have express fear that the decision to withhold the balance of about 10 (ten) months by management could be deliberate as the 8th Assembly will soon be come to an end.

The NASS aides also asked “If our allowance are not paid what is our hope that our severance would also be paid.? ” We were told by the legislative aides of the 7th Assembly that their own severance was not fully paid and we do not want to be a victim so we call on relevant authority to be aware of our plight and hardship. We will reject it if our severance entitlement are not paid in full as stipulated in the rules.

Meanwhile some legislative Aides were reported to be sick without money for treatment, “we lost some colleagues due to lack of money to pay medical bills while others are stranded without money to return back from their journey yet we have unpaid allowances that management has deliberately refuse to pay because we do not have a voice.

We once more call on the Federal government to intervene and give us our dues.”

“We came on board on the 9th of June 2015. A DTA is for 3months so from June 2015 -August 2018 in total is 13 DTA’s and the management has only paid just 4 & half. Because in January 2018 we were paid 40,000 instead of 74,000, so going by our calculation we have outstanding of 10 DTA they added.
