Liverpool Dominate Newcastle To Go Second Place

Spread the love

With Manchester City far out in front of the Premier League pack, the battle for second place is where it’s at and Liverpool put themselves above Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur thanks to a 2-0 defeat of Newcastle United on Saturday evening.

Rafa Benitez went into the game with an impressive record over his former employers and Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius was called into action on a fair few occasions despite Newcastle possessing just 29 percent of the ball.

Naturally, it is in defence where most sides travelling to Anfield have to be at their best though and the Magpies held out for 40 minutes before Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain found Mo Salah for the opener, his 23rd league strike of the season.

A piece of artistic interplay then had Liverpool two goals to the good, Sadio Mane applying the finishing touch to put the game to bed and Jurgen Klopp’s team into second ahead of United’s trip to Crystal Palace on Monday.
