#EndSARS: PDP Not Alternative To APC In Lagos – Analyst

A political analyst and public commentator, Prince Dare Aladekoba, has said that, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is never an alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Lagos State.

Aladekoba, who is the Convener of the Royal Peoples Platform (RPP), noted Sunday in Lagos at a media interactive session where he reacted to the call by the Lagos State chapter of the party that Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu should resign from office alleging the governor did not handle the #EndSARS protest well.

The right activist wondered whether the party was awake or asleep when the governor was earning accolades from far and near over the fatherly manner he handled the protest reminding the PDP how Sanwo-Olu walked with the protesters and even abandoned other schedules of office to take their letter of demands to the Federal Government in Abuja.

“In the art of governance, PDP is never in a position to complain about how the APC governors across the country are doing. We are all living witnesses to the 16 years of misrule of the PDP that compelled Nigerians to reject it and sweep it out of office in 2015. And as regards to Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, his performances from the day he ascended the gubernatorial throne till date, it has been commendation galore across the globe.

“We could easily recall how two international bodies the United Nations (UN), and the World Health Organization (WHO), lauded him for doing a great job during the COVID-19 pandemic. And his performance during the recent #EndSARS protest has attested to the fact that the COVID-19 success was not accidental at all,” Aladekoba submitted.

Against this background, the youthful public commentator reasoned that, what the governor deserves now is maximum support and more encouragement to do more for the state and not detraction like the PDP needless call for resignation, expressing the delight that nobody has taken the party’s unpopular call seriously.

Speaking further, the RPP boss, therefore, urged the people to ignore the call and intensify their support, assistance, encouragement and cooperation with Sanwo-Olu’s administration, sympathising with the PDP that wants to use the #EndSARS episode to launch itself back to the limelight.

“What baffles me and other well-meaning Nigerians about the unpatriotic call from the PDP to Sanwo-Olu is how on earth the party thought that this is the best time to make such a callous call?! Every right-thinking person would know that, going by the heavy destruction visited on the state, how to rebuild is expected to be uppermost in their mind.

“Besides, since a panel of enquiry has been set up by the authorities to find out what went wrong with a view to forestalling future occurrence, it is expected that, all hands should be on deck by submitting memoranda and assisting in collectively finding lasting solutions to the problem. It is therefore amusing that, that was the period the PDP chose to make an annoying call for the resignation of a focussed governor!,” Aladekoba wondered.

Concluding, the RPP Convener expressed excitement that, Sanwo-Olu has taken another right step towards the right direction by setting up an endowment fund where people of the like minds, to take part in the rebuilding to have a platform to make their contributions, admonishing the people to support and cooperate with him.
