Bayern Munich secured their place in the Champions League quarter-finals at home to Lazio, claiming a 2-1 win at the Allianz Arena.

Robert Lewandowski and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting got their goals on the night, with Bayern breezing their way into the last eight.

In truth, the tie was settled in the first leg in Rome, where the reigning European and world champions recorded a resounding 4-1 win over the Italians.

Wednesday’s was a game that very much felt like one with little on the line, and neither side were at their best or sharpest.

Lazio’s struggles across both legs were seen again early on the night, as Vedat Muriqi got in Joaquin Correa’s way as his attacking partner looked to shoot.

Bayern’s first real chance fell to Leroy Sane, but his curled effort flew wide of the post as Lewandowski threw himself towards the ball in an attempt to turn it past Pepe Reina.

The Biancocelesti generously gifted Bayern chances in the first leg, and that continued in the second. Muriqi was all over Leon Goretzka as a corner came in and a penalty was awarded. Lewandowski stepped up and beat Reina easily, sending the Spaniard the wrong way.

Lazio were left wanting in attack, and looked short of ideas whenever they did venture into their hosts’ half.

At the other end, Lewandowski came close to a second. David Alaba set up his No.9 and the Pole struck a decent effort off the post that Reina was able to gather on the rebound.

Lewandowski was then taken off and his replacement Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored within two minutes of his arrival. Alaba was again the architect of the chance, and the forward produced a delighted chipped finish into the bottom corner.

Lazio salvaged some pride late on through Marco Parolo, leaving the aggregate scored at 6-2.
