ex-GTBank Staff Jailed For Stealing N2m

A former staffer of Guaranty Trust Bank Plc located at 635 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, Southwest, Nigeria, Bukola Shoremilekun has been sentenced to one year and eight months imprisonment for fraudulently withdrawing the sum of N2m from the account of his employer without authorization and converted the money to his use.

The convict was sentenced by Magistrate O. S. Abioye after being found guilty in the two-count charge bordering on fraud and stealing preferred against him by the police at the Bar Beach division, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Magistrate Abioye, however, gave the convict an option to either pay back the sum of N1,500,000 to the complainant and 200 hours of community service or serve the prison terms.

Police counsel, Reuben Solomon had told the court that the journey to jail started for the convict in 2017 when he fraudulently withdrew N2 million from his employer’s account, just one year after he secured the job.

Magistrate Abioye jailed the convict after he found him guilty as charged in the case spanning about seven years.
