Chelsea Beat Newcastle, Go Fourth On Premier League Table

Chelsea moved into the Champions League places for the first time since Thomas Tuchel took charge with a 2-0 win over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.

Olivier Giroud, who was called up to replace the injured Tammy Abraham early on, opened the scoring for the hosts after good work by Timo Werner down the left wing.

The former RB Leipzig striker would finally find the net later in the first half, putting an end to 14 matches without a goal in the Premier League.

After Giroud had contested a corner at the near post, the ball arrived in Werner’s path at the back post and he squeezed it over the line before Karl Darlow could save it.

That would be the end of the scoring in west London, as Chelsea overtook West Ham and Liverpool to go fourth in the Premier League.
