He Denied Me Sex, Accused Me Of Infidelity – Wife Tells Court
…She was carrying another man’s one month pregnancy when I married her – Husband
A woman, Eunice Ogbugwo, has sued for divorce at Oja Oba/Mapo Court C Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Eunice, in her suit, alleged that her husband, Reuben Ogbugwo, cares less about their children’s welfare, neglected her and also denied her conjugal right. She added that he was always beating her.
She thus prayed the court to terminate their union and grant her custody of their three children.
Eunice stated before the court thus: “I have known no peace since I got married to my husband 13 years ago.
“My husband is a brute and has turned me into his punching bag. Hardly does a day pass by without him beating me.
“He didn’t stop beating me even when I was thrice pregnant with our babies. During one of the pregnancies, he beat me till I bled. I nearly lost that particular pregnancy.
“Any time he beat me, he ensured he left a wound or mark on me and this I spent my money nursing.
“There was never a time he showed any sign of remorse or offered to pay for my treatment in the hospital after punching me.”
She went on: “He constantly denied me s*x. We only made love for procreation purpose. He shunned every move I made at having us made love and later deserted our bed.
“He not only neglected me, he showed no interest in the welfare of our children.
“Hardly did he leave money for their feeding. As a result of this, they look malnourished.
“They have also stopped going to school because he’s not interested in their education. He was always complaining of paucity of fund, “she added.
“My husband is jealous and regularly accused me of infidelity. He hates to see me interact with other men and regard any man I was close to as my lover.
“I moved out of his house in July when we fought and he nearly succeeded in snuffing life out of me.
“I can no longer live under the same roof with a heartless and irresponsible man.
“I therefore, pray the court to separate us, “the plaintiff stated.
Reuben agreed to divorce but pleaded that their children be put in his care.
Giving his testimony, the defendant told the court, ”I’m married to a harlot. My wife can sleep with anyone regardless of his status. She’s worse than a dog.
“News of her escapades with other men filtered into my ears on a daily basis, but I waited patiently till I caught her red handed.
“My lord, I caught my wife in bed with another man in our room.
“I sent her packing after this incident.
“I also declare before this honourable court that the first child in our marriage is not mine.
“By the time we got married, she was already carrying another man’s pregnancy which was a month old. We decided to keep this a secret between us.
“Since she has come to court she can as well take her child with her and leave me with the other two who are my biological children, “the defendant said.
After listening to both parties, the court president, Ademola Odunade, adjourned the case till October 19 and ordered the couple to come to court with their children.
