The Provincial Court of Madrid will pass judgement on January 21, 2019, on Cristiano Ronaldo, who faces a two-year prison sentence and a fine worth 18.8 million euros.

This is after he agreed a pact with Madrid’s prosecutors and with the treasury.

The agreement recognised that he had committed four fiscal crimes between 2011 and 2014.

Judicial sources informed EFE that the court will pass judgement at 9:50 CET on January 21.

The case will only last one day and Ronaldo must accept the findings, though he does not personally have to attend the court and can request to attend via a video conference call.

At first, prosecutors claimed that there was a tax evasion worth 14.7m euros, though after the agreement it was lowered to 5.7m euros.

In any case, and in agreement with the pact the footballer reached with the treasury and prosecutors, he will pay a fine of almost 19m euros, made up of fines and interest.

Ronaldo‘s is just the latest such case, joining others like Luka ModricMarceloRadamel FalcaoAngel Di Maria and Javier Mascherano in coming to agreements with prosecutors in order to reduce punishments.
