Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been inducted into Liberia’s Order of Distinction as the Knight Grand Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption.
The national honour was bestowed on the 68-year-old by his former player at Monaco and country’s president, George Weah in Monrovia on Friday.
The presidential recognition comes as appreciation for Wenger’s contributions to sports in Africa.
The former Gunners boss who arrived at the Roberts International Airport on Wednesday , gave Weah his first taste of European football after bringing him to Monaco from Cameroonian club Tonnerre Yaounde in 1988.
He also gave opportunities to 16 football stars at Arsenal during his reign at the helm – Nigeria’s Kanu Nwankwo, Alex Iwobi, Morocco’s Marouane Chamakh and Cote d’Ivoire’s Kolo Toure, Emmanuel Eboue, Gervinho among others.
