Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Geoffrey Kondogbia from Valencia. Los Rojiblancos were permitted to bring the midfielder in as an emergency replacement outside of the transfer window after Arsenal paid Thomas Partey’s release clause on deadline day in October.
The deal, which will see Kondogbia swap Mestalla for the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano with immediate effect, is worth 15 million euros in transfer fees. The 27-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2024. After sounding out the likes of Jose Campana from Levante, Guido Rodriguez from Real Betis and Mikel Merino from Real Sociedad, Kondogbia is eventually the player Atletico have gone for to replace the departed Thomas.
The Central African Republic international joins Koke, Saul Niguez, Marcos Llorente, Hector Herrera and Lucas Torreira as midfield options in Diego Simeone’s squad.
