Don’t Abuse Sanwo-Olu’s Gesture Over COVID-19 Curfew Relaxation – Analyst

A Human Rights Activist and Political Affairs Analyst, Prince Dare Aladekoba, has admonished the operators of the hospitality outfits, who are the current beneficiaries of the latest lockdown relaxation in Lagos State not to abuse the good gesture of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu over his kindness.

Aladekoba, who is also the leader of the Royal Peoples Platform (RPP), in a chat with newsmen in Lagos Friday said, Sanwo-Olu’s step taken would not only safe guide the life of the citizenry; it would also boost the state and personal economy of the Lagos residents.

On Thursday, the COVID-19 Incident Commander and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, through the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso relaxed the curfew imposed on hospitality outfits like Hotels, Bars, Nightclub and restaurants with guidelines that their operators should strictly follow.

The guidelines, according to the Commissioner are, “restriction of their operations to 50% of their occupancy rate as directed by Mr. Governor, in addition to observing the guidelines on physical distancing, use of face masks, temperature checks and washing of hands with soap and running water or using of hand sanitizers.”

In addition, “events centre operators are also to ensure that participants at any event in their premises do not exceed 50% capacity of the design of their halls while strict compliance with the two-metre spacing between seats must be strictly enforced.”

The highly impressed analyst reminded that, “the monitoring and compliance teams from the Lagos State Special Task Force will step-up enforcement to ensure that entertainment and event centres do not violate COVID-19 regulations,” warning that, “non-compliance with the guidelines on COVID-19, according to the governor, will attract maximum sanctions in accordance with the law.”

It was against this backdrop that Aladekoba assured the governor of his member’s readiness to assist in the areas of monitoring and enlightenment aspects of the guidelines with a view to reporting back the level of compliance to the necessary agencies for corrective measures and sanctions where desired.

According to him, if the two international organization like the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nation (UN), could recognize Sanwo-Olu’s efforts in the anti-COVID-19 battle and thus commended him, “we, his direct people are therefore duty-bound to support and cooperate with him to encourage him to do more for the state in particular and the nation as a whole.
