As part of measures to assist in its rapid development, the Nigerian government has been advised to operate open policy, which China said had helped it to achieve its status as a developing country.

Deputy Director-General, Foreign Affairs Office, People’s Government of Guangdong Province, China, Luo Jun, gave the assurance yesterday while addressing Nigerian journalists’ delegation to China in Guangdzhou.

Jun, assuring of China’s readiness to share its experience, ascertained that what took China 40 years to arrive at its present status, would take Nigeria lesser years to achieve.
He said if Nigeria could adopt regional policy, open its doors to foreign investors and create a conducive environment for Nigerians in the Diaspora to return and invest, it would go a long way to help it regain its lost glory as the giant of Africa.

“Regional policy is good for Nigeria. When China started the open policy, it attracted investors from Hong Kong and Chinese overseas. If the Nigerian government can make a policy that would bring its citizens back home to come and invest, Nigeria would stand tall to be a member of comity of nations,” Jun said.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government has cautioned Nigerians who come into the country with the aim of drug peddling to desist from the act, as China is no safe haven.

Jun, therefore, advised Nigerian government to take the issue of law enforcement seriously, as offenders of the law irrespective of the status would be brought to book to serve as deterrent to others.

He also cautioned Nigerians coming to China for businesses to come with the right purpose and avoid the temptation of making quick money through illegal means.
