Jorginho Penalty Secure Three Points For Chelsea Against Poor Tottenham

Spread the love

AJorginho penalty proved the difference in the London derby between Tottenham and Chelsea on Thursday night, handing Thomas Tuchel his second win in his third game in charge.

Spurs’ faint title hopes appear to have all but evaporated, as they racked up their third straight defeat following losses to Liverpool and Brighton, and their lacklustre display provides little hope of things being put right any time soon.

Chelsea dominated the ball against Jose Mourinho’s defensive setup and it looked just a matter of time before they took the lead.

Eric Dier’s clumsy challenge on Timo Werner left referee Andre Marriner with no other option than to point to the spot, and Jorginho made no mistake with the penalty.

Tottenham showed some fight in the second half through the introductions of Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela, while Gareth Bale remained on the bench.

Vinicius had Tottenham’s best chance of the night with a header just ten yards from goal, but the Brazilian diverted the ball wide of the goal.

The result sees Spurs sink to eighth, while Chelsea move up to fifth.
