The Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr AbduLateef Abdul-Hakeem has insisted that nothing is wrong with the usage of Hijab, saying that the Nigerian Constitution is so comprehenssive that it doesn’t  in anyway, forbid hijab for women.

Speaking at the Annual Media Conference of the Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, MMPN, held at the Lagos State Secretariat Mosque Multi-Purpose Hall, Alausa, the Commissioner insisted that where the problems and controversies lie is in the operation and implementation of the Constitution by some Nigerians. He blamed the frequent uproar generated by the usage of hijab on the Muslims, who, he said, had abandoned their role and allow their affairs to be controlled and managed by the Non- Muslims.

Hence, the Commissioner called on Muslims to not only make efforts in knowing about their religions but also work hard to participate in politics and policy making to enable them to right the wrong in the society, especially on issues of injustice against the Muslims.

He decried the low rate of Muslims with perquisite knowledge of Islam and participation in politics, saying that Muslims cannot continue to be back benchers and expect the continued tide of injustice to change.

On his part, Professor Lai Olurode, tasked media professionals to bring objectivity to bear and  eschew bias while reporting in order uphold the ethics of the profession and play the expected role of the media in the society.

Olurode, who spoke on the paper titled: “Any Silver Lining in the Nigerian Media Machine?”, bemoaned some media contents which exhibited known biases of the writer through fabrication of unconfirmed, untrue and misrepresentation of facts in the news reportage. He advocated constant training of reporters to enable the media play its achieve ideal roles.
