Fans Believe Real Shouldn’t Give Barca A Guard Of Honour

If Barcelona win LaLiga before the season’s final Clasico, the majority of voters on MARCA’s poll believe reigning champions Real Madrid shouldn’t give them a pre-match guard of honour.

It has often been a tradition throughout the history of Spanish football, albeit one which has came under the microscope this season.

Barcelona’s refusal to partake in one to honour Real’s success at the Club World Cup in December when the sides met at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu has angered many at Los Blancos.

That includes coach Zinedine Zidane, who has accused the Blaugrana of breaking with tradition and insisted his side will return the favour in that regard if Barcelona go on to win the league before their next meeting.

Sixty-three percent of voters in MARCA in English’s poll, which well over 16,000 people voted in, believe Real are right to avoid a guard of honour, with 37 percent taking the opposite viewpoint.

It was a much closer affair on the Spanish-language version of the website, which accumulated more than 115,000 votes.

In the particular poll, 52 percent of people believe that Real Madrid shouldn’t honour their rivals, while 48 percent think they should do so.
