Athletic showed that there are many different ways to win a football game as they knocked Manchester City out of the FA Cup with Will Grigg getting the only goal after 79 minutes despite having just 17.4% possession.

The first half dismissal of Delph with a straight red card for a studs up challenge played a part in the game but City still had chances which they didn’t take with Wigan standing firm and goal keeper Walton making some important blocks.

The 82.6% possession is not a record for Guardiola as a coach, with his Barcelona team having 86.5% when they faced Inter in the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2010.

It was City’s third defeat of the season after they also lost to Shalhtar in the Champions League and Liverpool in the Premier League.

The defeat also brought to an end City’s hope of being the first English team to win a cuadruple.
