UNIOSUN Missing Student Not In Our Custody, Says Lagos Police Command Spokesperson

The Lagos State Police Commanded has indicated that it has no connection with alleged missing of Osun State University final year student, Yemi Olaniyan, who a spiraling post across social medial claimed has gone missing after his visit to Ojodu Divisional Police Station, where he had gone to sought for help as a first time visitor to Lagos.

 

 

It was learnt that the incident occurred on 28th February and that the final year Accounting student of the university, who reside in Osun state, had contacted her family to inform that he would no longer be able to return home and that he would be sleeping over at the police station after night approach.

 

 

However, the police stated that there was need for the command to clarified on the linking after its attention was drawn to the post online connecting the office to Olaniyan disappearance.

 

 

The command in a statement issued by its spokesperson, SP Chike Oti, disclosed that the university missing student, was in Lagos to submit documents for his industrial attachment at Institute of Chartered Account of Nigeria (ICAN) office in Lagos and that he was claimed to had slept at the station, where he was alleged to had gone missing.

 

 

The statement read:

“it was also mentioned in the post that Yemi’s trip to Lagos was his first to the city and the command hereby states categorically that the missing student was never a guest at the station as alleged.

 

“There’s no record to show that he was at any Police station in Lagos either as a visitor or a detainee. Besides, no Police station in Lagos operates as a guest house. It is not allowed”.

 

“Going forward, the command wishes to advise the concerned family to report a case of missing person to the police so that the matter can be thoroughly investigated”.

 

“For instance the detectives would want know which of the ICAN offices in Lagos the missing person went for the submission of his document because there is no any of the body’s office close to the Ojodu Divisional Police Station.

 

“Secondly, it was stated in the write up that the missing student is a first time visitor to Lagos, the detectives would like to know if arrangement was made for him to contact anybody on arrival and so on. Please hurry up and report this matter to the police because time is of essence”.
